TOPIC: THE 3 R’S (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)
An assembly was conducted by the students of Class V–E on Thursday, 19thJanuary 2017, on the topic 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). The assembly started with the school prayer followed by news headlines and the thought for the day.
“We must learn to be less wasterful and to develop an environmental ethic that includes a respect for all other species”.
Paul Griss, The Daily Planet
Students introduced the concept of 3R’s. They laid stress on the importance of reducing the consumption of electricity, water, fossil fuels etc. and also reusing things where ever possible to make the world a better place to live in for the coming generations. Recycling is a concept everyone is well aware of because of ‘The Kabariwallas’. The Kabariwallashelp in recycling newspapers, jam bottles and coke cans which are discarded by all house holds.
The students also explained to the audience as to how wecan all reduce the consumption of electricity andshouldmake more use of solar energy which is an unlimited source of energy. They asked their fellow friends to always switch off the fan and lights in their class if they are going out for an activity and take care to do the same at home too. They told that we can save water by taking a bucket bath instead of a shower. To save precious petrol, we can car-pool or walk wherever possible.Through this assemblythe importance ofsegregating bio-degradable and non bio–degradablewasteswasalso explained. To make segregation easy for the common mancolour code is used to differentiate between different types of waste. For eg –
Green bin- Organic Waste (Food and garden waste)
Blue bin – Plastic and dry recycling waste
Black bin – Non recyclable waste
Red bin- Hazardous waste
The students of V – E concluded the assembly by referring to another ‘R’ indicating ‘Refuse’ and in this regard mentioned Mahatma Gandhi’s well known quote:
“There is enough for everyone’s need but not enough for everyone’s greed”.
The assembly concluded with the National Anthem.
