A REPORT ON “CYBER SAFETY OF CHILDREN FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AND TEACHERS OF SCHOOLS”

Protecting children from Cyber threats is important during this lockdown period. A Webinar on the theme “Cyber Safety of Children” was organised by NIPCCD( National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development) on 30 May 2020. It was attended by the teachers of Summer Fields School, Kailash Colony.
The Panel Expertscomprised Dr Karanika Seth, Cyber Law Expert; Mr Rakshit Tandon ,Cyber Security Expert; Mr Shawshank Shekhar , Advocate High Court Delhi; Mr Prabesh Choudhary, Cyber Expert . They discussed a plethora of problems taking place during this Lockdown era related to Child abuse, hacking of children accounts, posting porn pictures, usage of fake ids illegally and Cyber Bullying.
The session commenced with Dr KC George , Deputy Director NIPCCD, discussing the agenda with the panellists. He handed over the conversation to the elite guest, Dr Karanika Seth. She efficiently and effectively discussed the various problems in depth. She reiterated thatHacking was done via Social media , through games or by asking OTPs. They even took access to various information and misused them. She further added that the hackers were taking selfies from various online classes andusing the same pictures, leading to pornography.
After that the participants were enlightened by Mr Rakshit Tandon , who continued to throw light on the same matter by highlighting the suggestions like children should not be given devices for use and if given must be given under proper guidance. He advised that children must be given proper knowledge about Sex education too. He recommended Multi Tracker Authentication i.e. Passwords alone were not secured instead OTPs must also be apart of our accounts. He also assured that these kind of crimes could be traced if complaints were lodged on time. Digital Foot Printing could be done to track the Internet Protocol(IP) address of the criminal whether minor or major.
Another Panelist, Mr Shashank Shekhar discussed about the legislative actions which were taken by the criminals for doing the same acts. Mr Shashank Shekhar briefed about POCSO Act and how the criminals of age under 18 were given punishments for various crimes including tampering of important and confidential data, hacking , sexual offenses, physical abuse, mental destress, sexual assault, cyber bullying etc.
Later, Mr Prabesh Choudhary and the experts concluded by having a session of friendly open question answers from the teachers, Police officials and parents attending the meeting. The interjection part of the session was really effective. The participants were benefitted a lot .
Everybody went thrilled by the content of knowledge and areas discussed by them. The teachers felt enlightened after attending such a fruitful session.
The success of the up gradation of the skills and knowledge of the teachers and the parents of SFS can only be conferred upon the School Principal, Dr Neeru Suman, who constantly acts as a guiding force for the teachers, students as well as the parents apart from motivating and inspiring them.
