Topic- Guru Nanak Jayanti
A special assembly was put up by the students of class V on 26th November 2015 to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji. The assembly started with a morning prayer followed by a wonderful thought. The students enlightened us about the significance of Gurupurab and various rituals associated with this festival. A pious atmosphere was created by the shabad sung by the children. Learners made the audience aware about various teachings of Guru Nanak Devji. Gurunanak Devji believed that the god is omnipresent, shapeless, timeless and sightless. Learners spoke about his thoughts, “ I am neither Hindu nor Muslim, I am a follower of God ”.He was strongly against all artificially created divisions and all discrimination, both in word and deed. His idea of a caste-free society transpired also in his concepts of Sangat and Pangat. He believed in equality of men and women. He introduced the concept of Karsewa which means voluntary labour performed by people from all stratas of the society. Langar was served to all visitors regardless of faith, religion or background to eat as equals.Students threw some light on how Gurupurab is celebrated by the Sikh community all over the world such as in the UK, Canada, Australia and in the US. Colourful traditional attire and the apt presentations made the assembly really special as every aspect of the festival was wonderfully depicted. Our Principal ma’am congratulated the children and the teachers. She also reiterated the need for religious tolerance.
It was a spiritual morning where we learnt that one has to follow the right path of sewa and simran to seek the blessings of the Almighty. Everybody had the taste of KarahPrashad which was distributed to the entire sangat.A sense of peace and tranquility filled the air as Summer Fields School celebrated Gurupurab.
