ITIHAAS Annual Address by His Holiness The Dalai Lama 6 February 2017
“Compassion can change the world” – H.H The Dalai Lama
Annual Address by ITIHAAS, proved to be an enthralling experience for the 14 students of class IX , as they huddled up in the lawns of Convent of Jesus and Mary with more than 500 children from various schools of Delhi. They were introduced to Mr. Vilas Nayak, a Speed Painter who through his quick paintings and portraits inspired students to follow their inert talents and dream big. Followed by His Holiness address where he emphasized on the two levels of human Nature: at the Fundamental level – Every Human being is same and in the Secondary level – due to external influences and one’s own practices every individual differs. He stressed on how every religion emphasized on compassion, love and justice and these very religions divide people today.
His Holiness stressed on children being brought up in love, affection and parental care, which according to him lacks in today’s world. He wanted children to be at peace mentally in order to bring peace in the world and in order to live healthily they should care for all living being.
His message for educators was to teach children about moral values not material values as, a material society builds a developed country but a moral society builds a peaceful and harmonious world. He mentioned, troubled society reverts by force which results in a counter-force and damages the peace of the society eternally.
Peace can be achieved only by a people’s movement directed through a vision of Ahimsa. A society that resorts to violence for achieving its goals will immerse itself in a vicious cycle of violence from which it cannot be saved.
The students posed questions and the graceful politico-religious head clarified their queries, his humility to bow down in front of the students influenced the students. They all bowed down in front of that mesmerizing persona as the interaction came to an end.
