ACADEMIC SESSION – 2016-17
On 2nd September, the students of Radhakrishnan House had the opportunity to present an assembly on Teachers’ Day. The assembly commenced with the Morning Prayer followed by the news headlines followed and the thought for the day.
‘ A good teacher is like a candle, it consumes itself to light the way for others’.
The students enlightened the audience with the importance of Teacher’s Day. They made their fellow friends aware of the fact that Teacher’s Day is celebrated to pay tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society. In India Teachers’ Day is celebrated on 5th September as it is the birthday of a great teacher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education, and was a well known diplomat, scholar, the president of India and above all, a teacher. When some of his students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, he said that instead of celebrating his birthday separately, it would be his proud privilege , if 5th September is observed as Teachers’ Day. Since the year 1967, 5th September is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India. The students enacted a class room scene where value education was being taught. Indirectly they taught the values every child must imbibe. They also made the audience aware that International Teachers’ Day is celebrated on 5th October. The assembly concluded with the National Anthem.
