World Red Cross Day
Tagore House conducted an assembly on 6.5.16.The theme of the assembly was World Red Cross Day. The assembly commenced with the morningprayer followed by the News Headlines and the thought for the day-
“It is better to look ahead and prepare,
Then to look behind and regret”.
Students informed the audience that World Red Cross Organization was started by Henry Dunant.He was the recipient of the first Noble Peace Prize for doing the same. Every year 8th of May is celebrated as World Red Cross day to honour the International Red Cross Crescent Movement founder Henry Dunant who was born on this day in 1828.National Societies that are affiliated to ICRC celebrate the World Red Cross day in their countries to raise the need of protecting life. This event highlights International services such as the reunion of separated family members through Red Cross. All attendees of this event are motivated and encouraged to take part in life saving activities.
The students highlighted how volunteers work relentlessly and selflessly for the upliftment of humanity.Many philanthropic activities like Blood Donation Camps and Fund Raising events are carried out on this day. A poem was recited which emphasized how the nurses work for Red Cross Organization without fearing for their own lives.
