On April 2, 2025, a session was conducted for Class 6E at Summer Fields School to raise awareness about autism. Led by the school counselor and special educator, the session aimed to help students understand Autism, its challenges, and the importance of empathy and inclusion. The session began with a short video, Nancy Learns About Autism, which explained Autism in a simple and relatable way. This helped students visualize the experiences of individuals with autism and understand the difficulties they face in daily life. After watching the video, a discussion was held where students shared their thoughts and reflections. To provide a hands-on experience, a sensory activity was conducted. A blindfolded student was asked to pick soft clay from a bowl containing hard grains like rajma and chana.
This activity helped students understand sensory challenges that individuals with autism often experience. After the activity, the facilitators explained how some autistic individuals have heightened or reduced sensitivity to textures, sounds, or sensations, making everyday situations difficult for them. The session concluded with a poster-making activity where students worked in pairs to create posters promoting autism awareness. This task encouraged teamwork, creativity, and open discussions about autism. Students learned the value of listening to different perspectives and working together to spread awareness. Overall, the session was engaging and insightful. Through videos, discussions, activities, and creative expression, students developed a deeper understanding of autism and the importance of acceptance and support. The session successfully encouraged empathy and a more inclusive mindset among the students.
