REPORT ON THE WEBINAR ORGANISED ON THE TOPIC
‘INTRODUCTION TO USEFUL TOOLS & ONLINE TEACHING STRATEGIES’
“EDUCATION IS ALL A MATTER OF BUILDING BRIDGES”
A series of six Webinar sessions were hosted by the Mathematical Science Foundation on the above topic, which commenced from 14th April, 2020. The webinar sessions were presented by Resource Person, Mr. Ayush Shukla, Mathematical Science Foundation, New Delhi. The prime objectives of these sessions were to provide teachers a boarder perspective on virtual education and help them cope up with the shift from conventional classroom teaching to virtual teaching confidently and effectively.
Summer Fields School, encouraged and provided the teachers the opportunity to attend these series of webinar sessions to get well acquinted to the various online teaching strategies and finely equip themselves to facilitate quality education to the students in an online teaching environment during this testing time of the lockdown.
The sessions focused on edification of technical advancement in online teaching with a discussion of several connected topics such as, Online teaching context and the differences between online and F2F teaching, Suitability of subjects/topics and tailoring of topics for online teaching further elaborating the Essential tools (Screen sharing, screen recording, whiteboard, document collaboration, video chat, homework, assessments). To add on to this, topics namely ‘Instructional Design for online teaching’,‘Technical aspects (Recording Video Lessons with Smartphone etc)’ and Handling learner challenges in the online medium and Increase learner engagement were also covered in these sessions.
Mr Ayush started from the very basic discussion on the difference between classroom teaching and online teaching and then he moved on to address the challenges faced in online teaching in a very simple, easy to understand and lucid manner. Each webinar was about an hour long and was followed by a discussion forum where the topic of discussion was posted by the moderator and participants were advised to discuss and share their experiences with fellow participants. Some topics or specific concerns were picked up for elaboration during the webinar. These series of webinar proved to be beneficial for teachers as all their queries were addressed by the host in detail. It has positively boosted the spirit of the teachers as they feel much better equipped to make their online classes more meaningful and constructive.
