PREPARATORY STAGE

Preparatory stage is the first stage of formal education, coming after ECCE and before middle school. The main objective of the primary education at Summer Fields is to bring awareness among the children, open avenues of opportunities along with self-development. Children are able to develop their social, cognitive, cultural, emotional and physical skills according to the best of their abilities. Discovery, play, activity based and interactive classroom learning are the main features of preparatory stage.

The overall aim of preparatory stage will be to attain optimal outcomes in foundational literacy and numeracy, reading, writing, speaking, counting, arithmetic and mathematical thinking with a robust system of continuous formative / adaptive assessment to track and thereby individualize and ensure each student’s learning.

At Preparatory stage we aim :-
To provide learning activities which require high levels of critical thinking and reasoning, accompanied by application of learning to real-world situations.

  • To use a wide range of teaching strategies and opportunities based on children’s learning needs so as to motivate and support them and to help them learn effectively.
  • To learn through role-play which enables children to act out alternative scenarios and to find different ways to express social or emotional difficulties. They can learn assertiveness, social skills, leadership qualities and to solve group conflicts through role-play and using the play space as a rehearsal for real life situations.
  • To provide opportunities that build upon and extend children’s knowledge, experience and interests, and develop their self-esteem and confidence.
  • To teach basic numerical and reading skills to the students along with arts and physical education.
  • To provide a safe and supportive learning environment in which the contribution of all children is valued.
  • To provide learning resources which reflect diversity and are free from discrimination and stereotype and to enable the child to live life to the fullest as a child and to realize his or her potential as a unique individual.
  • Multi- disciplinary and integrated learning is the mantra at this stage.
  • To develop aesthetic taste and be able to express freely in creative activities.
