Summer Fields School, Kailash Colony, proudly hosted Chaturanga -The Interschool Rapid Chess Championship 2025 on 24th and 25th July 2025, in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. The event witnessed an impressive turnout of more than 400 enthusiastic participants from nearly 42 prestigious schools from Delhi and NCR, coming together to engage in a spirited celebration of strategy, intellect, and sportsmanship.
The championship was elevated by the presence of Chief Guest Mr. Adhiban Baskaran, a celebrated Chess Grandmaster, former World Under-16 Champion and Gold medalist at the Chess Olympiad of 2007 and 2008, Guest of Honor Mr. Khushmeet Singh, former International Hockey Player and currently Senior Manager at Indian Oil, our esteemed Chairman, Shri Inder Dev Gupta, whose visionary leadership and unwavering encouragement have always played a key role in nurturing excellence among students, Ms. Neera Kanojia, Head of Cambridge, and Academic Advisor Mr. Ashok Arora.
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing the spark of wisdom that chess ignites in young minds. A vibrant cultural presentation by the students added color and energy, beautifully setting the tone for the event.
The Principal, Ms. Shalini Agarwal, warmly greeted all the dignitaries, team mentors, and participating schools. She emphasized the importance of chess in building life skills such as patience, strategic thinking, and decision-making. The Chief Guest addressed the gathering, urging students to play with passion and integrity.
The intense two-day tournament, conducted over five competitive rounds under the Swiss-system in accordance with FIDE regulations, witnessed students compete in three categories: Classes III–V, VI–VIII, and IX–XII. The event was efficiently officiated under the expert guidance of Chief Arbiter IA Amit Sharma, ensuring fair play and smooth conduct throughout.
The championship culminated in a grand prize distribution ceremony, where outstanding performers were honored with trophies, medals, certificates, and cash prizes. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to the school management, organizing team, participating schools, mentors, parents, and supporting staff for their invaluable contributions in making the championship a memorable and enriching experience.
The ‘Chaturanga Championship’ is not just a competition—it is a celebration of intellect, discipline, and community and it will continue to carry forward the legacy of the game of chess.
