Literary Fiesta 2025

Introduction

The Literary Fiesta 2025, a dynamic, week-long celebration of language, literature, and culture, was successfully organized by the English Department under the stewardship of Ms. Anju Joshi (HOD). Running from 10th to 14th November 2025, the Fiesta immersed students in a vibrant atmosphere of reading, writing, and linguistic diversity (English, French, and German). The event’s success was significantly marked by the presence and patronage of our esteemed Chairman Sir, Mr. Inder Dev Gupta, and our respected Principal, Ms. Shalini Agarwal.

Highlights of the Literary Fiesta 2025

Day 1: The Grand Inauguration

The event commenced with the Lighting of the Lamp amidst the chanting of the sacred shloka, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and the ushering in of wisdom and knowledge. The dignitaries gracing the occasion included our respected Principal, Mrs. Shalini Agarwal, our esteemed Guests of Honour – Academic Advisor Mr. Ashok Arora, and Ms. Neera Kanojia, Principal, SFIS, along with faculty members and enthusiastic students.

This was followed by a felicitation ceremony, where the Head of the English Department Ms. Anju Joshi and Head of Hindi Department Ms. Taruna Pundeer warmly felicitated the Principal Mrs. Shalini Agarwal and the Guests of Honour with planters as a token of respect and appreciation. Adding a poetic charm to the morning, Ms. Anju Joshi Head of English Department, presented a beautiful self-composed poem that captured the essence of literature and learning. The soulful poem set a reflective and inspiring mood for the audience.

The inauguration’s cultural segment vividly showcased the school’s multilingual richness, featuring an emotional English song, a melodious Hindi song, a vibrant French fusion dance, and a creative German activity where students confidently portrayed famous German personalities. Following the performances, the dignitaries shared words of appreciation, commending the students’ talent and the Literary Department’s effort in organizing a meaningful event that nurtures creativity and linguistic appreciation. The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, successfully embodying the spirit of the Literary Fiesta 2025 where words, art, and emotion unite to celebrate expression.

Day 2: “Book in the Bag”

The “Book in the Bag” event, a major highlight of the school’s Literary Week, was successfully conducted on November 11, 2025, in the Senior Library, aiming to inspire innovative literary interpretation and the joy of reading among enthusiastically participating Class VII students. The students, showcasing diverse literary tastes ranging from classics like “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and “Anne of Green Gables” to contemporary works such as Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, gave confident, creative presentations using relevant props and costumes. The event successfully demonstrated the students’ strong reading habits, comprehension, and critical thinking skills, concluding on an inspiring note for all attendees.

Day 3 – Quiz – “The Battle of Books”

The intellectual excitement of the Literary Fiesta reached a peak with the highly anticipated Battle of Books competition, a core event designed to transform the reading lists of Classes VI to IX into a thrilling test of wit. Each team consisted of 4 students representing the schoolhouse. The event was graced by the erudite presence of Mr. Sumit Bhardwaj who served as the esteemed judge along with the benign presence of our respected Principal, Ms. Shalini Agarwal, Mr. Ashok Arora sir, and Ms. Amita Gulati, (Academic Coordinator-Middle School). As the rounds progressed, the teams showcased remarkable comprehension, reasoning and literary flair. The first position was bagged by Tagore House, while Nehru House secured the second position.

The event concluded with words of appreciation from our Principal, who congratulated all the participants for their commendable performance and encouraged them to continue nurturing their reading habits. The participants were commended for their excellence, teamwork and literary acumen. The Battle of Books not only celebrated literary brilliance but also reinforced the joy of learning through collaboration, curiosity and a shared love for reading.

Day 4 – Literary News Hunt

The Literary Day activity for Class IX was conducted in the classes throughout the literary week. The students were given a copy of the English newspaper –The Times of India (NIE) and various activities were performed by students. Students participated enthusiastically in finding five or more metaphor/simile from different news articles. They also worked in pairs to identify five new words and their meanings along with reporting five dialogues in Indirect Speech. Summarizing the News articles in their own words and decorating it showcased their creativity in full swing. The Teachers appreciated the students displaying the best presentation and encouraged others to work to the best of their ability. This activity enhanced and honed the various skills of the students including reading comprehension, vocabulary, and identifying literary devices in real-world writing.

Day 5 – Inter-Class Poetry Writing Competition

An Inter-Class Poetry Writing Competition for Class XI students on November 14, 2025, in the aesthetically decorated AV Room, aiming to foster creativity, self-expression, and a love for literature. Judged by Santosh Kumar Sir and Megha Mary Ma’am on parameters including originality, coherence, and expressive language, the participants displayed remarkable talent and a deep understanding of contemporary issues, leading the judges to appreciate the high standard of entries. After careful evaluation under the guidance of Ms. Anju Joshi (HOD) and Ms. Bhaswati Mukherjee, the competition concluded with Jessica Singh Nijjer securing the First Prize, Hridyanshi Chandra the Second Prize, and Shanza Sadat the Third Prize.

The Enthusiastic Closing Ceremony

The Literary Fiesta 2025 concluded spectacularly with the Closing Ceremony on November 14, 2025, which offered a rich blend of fun and recognition. The event was graced by the presence of the Principal Ms. Shalini Agarwal, Mr. Ashok Arora (Academic Advisor), and Ms. Neera Kanojia (Principal, SFIS). Mr. Upadhaya from the Directorate of Education, New Delhi, visited to the school and was requested to attend the event. He appreciated the students for their wonderful presentation. The highlight was the Character Parade and tabloid formation by Classes VI-VIII, where students transformed into literary figures and eras, earning appreciation from the respected dignitaries who observed the formations. Further enhancing the cultural exchange were the French and German Cuisine Stalls, offering authentic tastes, and the interactive Spin the Wheel – (a German activity), ensuring the week ended on a high note of enjoyment and cross-cultural learning. The entire event successfully reinforced that language is a magnificent tool for imagination and connection.
